A Belated Dose of Kindness

Last week, I did not have a weekly fruit of the spirit post.  It wasn't because I forgot, it was just that I wanted to wait and get to know someone a bit better before I wrote them.  Excuse the belatedness of this post, but here it is.

Today, I introduce Kindness to you.

Kindness gives the best hugs.  He sings screamo music and plays the drums so intensely it could easily be considered a form of exercise.  Kindness can make you smile when you're down, make you feel like the most important person in the room, and challenge you to think about things you never considered.

Kindness is a good cook; that is, if you consider making a bowl of cereal cooking.  He wears "gorilla snot" hair gel because he likes the name.  Kindness is a goof ball, but he can make you laugh until your sides hurt even when you're having a bad day.

But Kindness never does things by accident.  Kindness notices when your upset, even without being told.  He understands that sometimes a listening ear is just as important as a good laugh and recognizes that correction can be just as valuable as encouragement.  Kindness loves everyone, unconditionally, just like Jesus did.  He never does anything half-heartedly.

Kindness expects nothing in return for his labors.  He has no hidden motive, no secret agenda.

Because of this, every good act Kindness performs reflects not his own glory, but the glory of the Lord.  His actions come straight from His love of the Lord, not from obligation or the need to prove Himself.  So yes, Kindness is a little strange, but he offers a rare kind of friendship that doesn't ask for anything in return.

I suppose you could say, He's one of a kind.

Dedicated to my friend Nate, whose wacky antics always make me laugh and whose pure heart for God always inspires me.
