Be Warned: God Blesses

A huge warning to you: God may bless you.

You won't know when it's coming.  He may bless you today, he may bless you tomorrow.  He may be blessing you right now.  But God has promised to bless His people, and one day or another you will face one of God's blessings.

From the comfort of our heated homes or cushioned pews, we like to think of blessings as the little unexpected happinesses in life.  The unusually beautiful sunset or the surprise visit from Grandma just when you needed it. These are blessing, but not the kind I am warning you about.

If they aren't little blessings, we like to think in terms of big blessings.  Maybe God has blessed you and your family financially or blessed you with the gift of intelligence.  Most of us would certainly be okay with the these sorts of blessings coming our way more often.  But neither is this the kind of blessing I am warning you about.

Indeed, I am warning you about the kind of blessing that will change you, the kind that will make you into a new and stronger person, the kind that will push you to grow beyond what you ever thought imaginable.  I am talking about the kind of blessing that will mix with blood, sweat, and tears, the kind of blessing that leaves you stripped of the things you thought you could never let go of, the kind of blessing that often is only viewed as a blessing in hindsight.

I am talking about the kind of blessing that tests whether a father is willing to sacrifice his beloved son, his only future, on an altar for the sake of his God.  I am talking about the kind of blessing that involves a people being constantly conquered by other nations so that they might return to their God in desperation.  I am talking about the kind of blessing that results from a Man dying a torturous death at the hands of those He came to save.

God has promised to bless His people, and that He will do.  Often times, if given the choice, we would leave some of these blessing behind.  But without them, we would be lacking in so much.  We would be lacking in faith, in a hope, and in a future.

God blesses those who serve Him.  Be warned.  But also, let your hope be restored.  By God's redeeming hand, even the worst of things can be a blessing.

"As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today." -Genesis 50:20
