Superpowers

In yesterday's blog, I challenged you to take a second look at whether or not your life lines up with your love for God.  Today, I want to look at why that's important.

Every emotion has the ability to motivate us into action.  Anger, sorrow, pain, joy, and excitement can all lead us to do things... good things, bad things, and neutral things.  Even "bad" emotion such as fear or self-love can drive us to do good things.

Following God is a good thing, but it is not always something motivated out of love.  Sometimes, we are motivated to follow God because we fear the consequences of our sin.  Other times, we may be driven by our desire to appear "holy" and "righteous" in the eyes of others.  These are two examples of negative emotion leading to a positive outcome.

But fear or self-love can only motivate us so far... emotion only lasts so long before it runs dry.  Love is a much more powerful force.  Where negative emotions push us towards a destination, love pulls us with open arms.  It has a much more powerful hold than things like fear, pain, or frustration.

Anger can motivate you to kill sin in your life.

Only love can motivate you to lose your life and find a new one.

The longing to be wanted can cause you to change your actions so that they are "pleasing" to those around you.

But only love can lead to a transformation of the heart.

God loves us in a way that demands He fight to win us back from the ways of the world.  He pursues us with such strength that it is impossible not to notice Him.   Sometimes we run.  Sometimes we hide.  Sometimes we refuse to answer His calls.  But Love is patient... Love is kind... and Love never, never gives up.
