Remember

Our modern world is one that operates at incredible speeds. We are always pushing out, pushing on, pushing forward. Invention. Innovation. Development. It's not bad.

But, as Christians, we must also remember who we were. We must remember that in God we have not only a future, but a past.

A past of being unfaithful and turning away. A past of struggle, hardship, and both literal and figurative slavery. A past in which God came to save us by taking on our form and becoming one of us.

We have been forgiven of the things that have happened in this past, and we are free of it. But the glory of the Rescuer is somewhat diminished if the rescued forget what they were saved from.

I speak not only of our own past, but of the past of the family we have been adopted into: of Israel, God's chosen people.

On Friday, we remembered the death, brutal and hideous. Today, we remember the silence of a world that had killed it's Savior. Tomorrow, we remember the Resurrection. Without any of these moments, the rest would not be complete in its glory.

So let us look back at how far we have come and Who made this possible, that we might find the strength to move forward.
